Mining company Keliber aims to start lithium production in Finland by 2022

Finnish mining company Keliber plans to excavate lithium ore from its mine in western Finland at the end of 2021. In addition to the mine, there will also be a concentrator and chemical plant for refining the ore into high-purity lithium chemicals. Together these will form Europe’s first lithium production chain. Keliber’s Lithium Project aims to excavate 11000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, which when used in EV batteries would power 300,000 to 400,000 electric cars every year. The production chain will reduce European reliance on traditional lithium sources in South America and China.
